Restoring damaged natural stone requires appropriate materials and methods in order to retain and protect stone and to reproduce its original appearance.
Natural stone restoration encompasses a range of different measures and processes which may have a preservative, restorative and/or preventive action:
To recreate the original strength of the material.
Mortars are used for reconstructing stone; ideal for repairing damage to natural stone surfaces.
We utilise specialised products to work in these highly sensitive areas.
Protection from water or moisture is among the classic stone preservation methods. On impregnation, water repellents penetrate into the surface of the building material, so protecting natural stone by reducing the absorption of water and pollutants.
We use a low-pigment finish enabling individual natural stone colouring and unobtrusive colour matching of repairs.
- Project Showcase: Andreas Church Memorial
The Andreas Church Memorial is over 30ft high and required detailed planning and various stages of work to complete the full restoration of the stone work.
The memorial is finished in a weathered terracotta render in keeping with the church.
Certain details such as the decorative crosses had to be reworked and have been recessed into the render, making an attractive feature. Thanks to Peter Killey from ManxScenes.com for the use of the above photo of Andreas Church
