Copper & Gold Splashbacks, Santon

Splashbacks in copper and gold, and great to be doing some Ilumitextra again.

In this kitchen we did the splash backs, to give a great look with a hard wearing, wipeable finish. Ilumitextra is copper and gold flake laid into a base coat, so it goes on as one continuous surface. It runs past the ovens, round the corner of the worktop, up either side of the extractor and along to the window without a joint or a strip of sealant anywhere.

The flake is thrown at the wall rather than trowelled on, which is why the shots further down look the way they do. You work a panel at a time while the base is still open, building the flake up in passes until it is packed edge to edge, and everything underneath ends up under a layer of the flake that falls short.

Behind a hob and a sink the wipeable part matters as much as the look, and this is a finish that gives you both.
