Decorative Finishes
Interior
We were in at Haus Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms in May 2024, doing Venetian plaster across their showrooms. It is a job with a particular pressure on it: when a kitchen and bathroom company picks the finish that will stand behind its own displays, the wall has to hold its own without ever competing with what is in front of it.
The first area is black Marmorino with a silver wax, and a large medallion stencilled into it. The wax sits in the trowel marks, so the wall moves as you walk past it — grey one moment, near-white the next where the light catches. Where the stencil runs, the pattern comes up cool and bright against the black. It wraps the living display, the corner by the entrance and the wall beside the oak door.
The second is the same black Marmorino, this time with a bronze finish. Same stencil, entirely different temperature: warm metal instead of cold. It runs up the piers and columns in the kitchen displays, and the pattern is carried around the corners so it doesn't stop dead at the arris. Against walnut units and pale stone worktops it does what black does best — gives everything else something to sit against.
