Another benefit of cork: it deadens sound.

When you are looking for the best sound insulation for internal walls, it is hard to see past spray cork. The coating gives the same sound insulation as panels or boards — up to 12 decibels — without the same bulk and hassle.

Internally it goes on as two coats of 3mm each, finished with a 2mm skim of plaster. That is a total thickness of just 8mm, and it still noticeably cuts the sound coming into a room.

Here it was used in a commercial setting to give more privacy between offices. It insulates at the same time, so it brings the heating bills down as well — and because it is only 8mm, nothing had to be moved to make room for it. The sockets, the radiator and the window reveals all stayed where they were, and the cable runs on the ceiling were simply coated over.
