A sympathetic restoration for the chapel at Braddan Cemetery.

We were glad to be asked to work on Braddan Cemetery Chapel. It needed restoration to both the external and the internal elevations, and it is not a building you rush.

We worked closely with David Norman of Fistard Project Services and with Keim Mineral Paints Ltd, and between us we selected Keim Lime Universal Render. It is a lime-based mineral render, breathable, and suited to a building of this age.

The scaffold went up the full height of the bell tower, and the walls came back to the stone in places before the new render went on. Inside, the plaster around the roof apex and the round window had flaked away; that was made good and finished with the rest.

The stone nave wall and the slate roof were left as they were.
