Bathroom Refurb Straight Over the Tiles

Three different finishes in one bathroom, and not a single tile came off the wall.

The before pictures show what we started with: cream tiles up the walls, brown tiles across the floor, a corner shower and a mirrored cabinet over the basin. Nothing wrong with any of it, and nothing anybody wanted to keep looking at.

The walls have had a Venetian plaster in a metallic silver with white glitter, applied over the existing tiles. The floor has had the crystal quartz, over the tiles that were already down. The ceiling has had our Ilumitextra glitter blends in white and silver glitter. Three finishes, three different jobs, one room.

The part worth dwelling on is what did not happen. No tiles came off the walls. No tiles came off the floor. There was no ripping out, no skip, no dust and no bathroom out of action for a fortnight. The clients have a bespoke finish and they got it with minimal upheaval.

What you gain on top of that is a surface with no grout in it. The plaster goes round the internal corners in one piece and up into the window reveal; the quartz runs across the floor without a joint. There is nothing to discolour along a grout line and nothing for water to work its way into.

The lighting is doing its share too. The backlit mirror throws light down the wall beside the basin, and the downlights sit in the glitter ceiling — which is exactly the sort of light a metallic and a glitter finish need if they are going to do anything at all.
